Important Information About The Rocks
Rocks: natural materials are generally solid and trained, mainly or wholly by a mineral assemblage, sometimes containing fossils (especially in sedimentary rocks), glass resulting from the rapid cooling of a liquid (volcanism, friction) rocks or other aggregates. The rocks can be formed from a single mineral species (monomineralic rocks) or more (polymineralic rocks)
Calcite can be part of the limestone and pure marbles
Quartz is only one component quartzite, gneiss and granites, basalts
The set has a certain statistical homogeneity. The classification of rocks is complex because it is based on many criteria
:The rock has a wide variety of aspects described as follows
Often hard and consistent: it is called stone (marble, granite), stone, pebble -
Friable or inconsistent with the image of chalk and talcum pressed under the fingers
Plastic as clay moistened -
Furniture to the example of flowing sand in the hourglass -
The liquid limit - oil - or gas -
Or permeable, such as limestone -
Or impervious as clay -
The science of description and analysis of rocks is called petrology (Greek petra, "stone", and Graph, "description"). Petrology (Greek petra and logos, "study") for its part, studies the mechanisms of formation and transformation of rocks. The scientific discipline associated with the study of motion and deformation of rocks is called rock mechanics.
